Leather fern is often seen as the beginning of the entire green chain. This is because cut greens have been a widely used product for several decades. We at Eurose & Greens have also been selling Leather Fern for a number of years.
And despite the fact that fern has been around for a long time in ornamental cultivation, it is certainly not a boring product! That was evident during last year's Leather Leaf fern Challange.
But what is the whole story behind this famous twig? In this blog, we'd like to tell you more. Curious? Then read on quickly.
Leather fern grows under black nets in Costa Rica and Guatemala. These nets are also called Saran, a shade cloth. The nets protect the fern from the bright sun. Originally, leather fern likes to grow in swampy areas. This is because it likes to grow in subtropical environments but wants to stay out of the sun.
The product we offer grows cultivated, meaning it does not grow in the wild. When the Leather Fern is ready to be harvested, it is picked, cleaned and sorted by length. We offer the fern in sizes: Junior, Medium and Large.
A portion of Leather Fern is also offered vacuum packed. This is becoming increasingly popular because this way the cut greens can be kept even longer.
Leather Fern is imported weekly from Central America and is available year-round.
The Leather Fern is known as a strong leaf, which can take a beating! One of the many reasons why the leaf is so widely used. We often see Leather Fern as the outer edge of a bouquet or incorporated into a corsage. But so much more is possible!
Last year, WBE, Eurose & Greens, Dutch Green Centre and Master Florist launched the Leather Leaf Fern Challenge. A competition in which florists had to incorporate the Leather Fern in the most creative way possible in a bouquet or arrangement.
The outcomes were great! Get inspired with beautiful sailing and get started yourself. You buy Leather Sailing easily and quickly through our webshop.
