Behind the scenes

Warm weather, wonderful trade and good conversations. Week 45 colleagues Gerben, Michael and Bas went to visit some of our suppliers in Portugal and Spain.

A great trip in which they saw a lot, learned, made contacts and improved contacts.

In this blog we would like to tell you a bit more about the different products from Spain and Portugal, the way it grows and some fun extra facts. Read on quickly and get inspired.

Eucalyptus Species

Almost all the vendors the colleagues went by offer different varieties of Eucalyptus. Baby Blue, Robusta, Cinerea, Lancet, Parvifolia and more varieties.

Consequently, there was much to see here.

Eucalyptus grows in large areas. Tours were therefore often done by car. Workers cut the Eucalyptus by hand, sort the branches by length, bunch the branches and prepare it for transport.

Extra nice to see was that on the way to one of the vendors, the Robusta could already be seen on the road. Like the Robusta, the Lancet and Pinus also come from the wild.

A fun fact we learned at this vendor is that Euca Robusta Pencil, Euca Victoria Lancet, Euca Globulus and Euca Boule all come from the same tree.

It was also easy to see that sustainability is an important issue, not only with us but also with suppliers.

For example, oils are extracted from the remains of the Eucalyptus by steam. This oil is sold and the remaining corky eucalyptus waste is strewn over the land as compost. So super sustainable!

Other products from southern Europe

In addition to Eucalyptus, we also offer other products such as Leather Fern, Phlebodium, Aspidistra, Ruscus and leucodendron. The pictures below show how these different products grow at the suppliers.

Some cultivated, some in the wild. One thing for sure, it looks beautiful!
