Salal, also known as Apple Leaf, has been a very popular cut vegetable we sell a lot for many years.
The green is a perfect base for any bouquet or arrangement thanks to its volume and long shelf life. The fresh green color of the leaves combines wonderfully with different colors of flowers or with other greenery.
We would love to tell you more about this beautiful product, read on quickly.
We import the Salal weekly from the West Coast of America. There, the leaves are picked by hand. This is hard work. The forests where the Salal grows are spread over large areas. An experienced picker picks about 5 to 6 boxes a day. This is about 125 bunches of Salal. The Salal grows among the trees and other plants, like a kind of weed. This causes the pickers to have to bend down a lot, extra heavy!
After picking, the cut greens are cleaned, sorted and inspected.
We can offer almost year-round Salal in our webshop. However, there is a period when it is more difficult than the other months. This is because the leaf is young then. It is customary after July 4, a holiday in America, to start plucking the cut foliage. The leaves are then flown this time because they are still too young and soft to come our way by boat.
We offer different brands and sizes of Salal in our web shop. Are you looking for a smaller blade? Then choose Salal Baby. Want more information about the different brands or sizes of cutting greens? Then get in touch with us. Our salespeople can tell you more about it.
Besides being a great base for any floral arrangement, Salal leaves can be used in many other ways. The photos below show different ways Salal can be used.
